She gets into a fight with her chaotic family and runs away to her best friend Gina's place only to find out Gina's been getting beat up by her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Carmen's boyfriend, Jared wants her to commit and move in with him. Pulled apart in every direction, her dream of dancing fades. STRONGER - a new film by Claes Lilja
This short film project is a contemporary adaptation of the classic play, The Stronger, by August Strindberg, set in contemporary L.A. and features two gay men in the lead roles traditionally played by women. It adds many layers of intricacy to a startlingly simple, yet famously complex story. It consists entirely of a single conversation between two actors who run into one another by chance at a West Hollywood bar on Christmas Eve. One of them doesn't even speak, yet manages to say volumes as they engage in a psychological wrestling match to see who is stronger. The film lends itself to many layers of interpretation and although it takes less than 15 minutes to watch, one can easily spend hours thinking about it afterward.
Written and directed by Claes Lilja
Produced by Thomai Hatsios
Director of Photography: Morgan Schmidt
Editor: Scott Bloom
Casting by Michael Donovan, C.S.A.

Cast:
Darryl
Darryl Stephens (Andy) started acting professionally while attending UC Berkeley, working with a theater troupe called Sassymouth and performing original gay-themed plays by John Fisher in San Franciscoʼs theater district. After taking Fisherʼs hit show, “Medea, The Musical” to HBOʼs Aspen Comedy Festival, he moved back to Los Angeles and started pursuing television and film work. MTVʼs Undressed was his first TV gig and Dirk Shaferʼs film Circuit was his first feature. After a few years of more supporting roles, Darryl booked the role of Noah in "Noahʼs Arc", Patrik-Ian Polkʼs groundbreaking series for the Logo Network. Soon after, he starred in Q. Allan Brockaʼs film "Boy Culture" and made a memorable appearance in Todd Stephensʼ "Another Gay Movie". Since then, heʼs played a supporting role in the upcoming feature, Bolden starring Anthony Mackie, voiced a character on the animated series "Rick and Steve" alongside RuPaul and gueststarred on ABCʼs "Private Practice". Heʼs in the process of publishing his first novel, heʼs completing an album of original songs and he has co-written two screenplays and a new TV series.

Steve
Steve Coombs (Ben) hails from the east coast where he worked as an actor on the New York stages in several classic plays as well starred in multiple independent films. He has also been seen in guest-starring and co-starring roles on television and since coming to California, Steve has also acted with some of the most well-renowned theater companies in Southern California. He got his degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and trained with some of the leading acting coaches in New York.

John-Michael
John-Michael Carlton (Bartender) is a Texas native who moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career in 2010. He has steadily been building his list of credits since then while studying with the acclaimed acting teacher, Anthony Meindl. He is also a martial arts master and physical fitness expert.

Darryl Stephens - Shortcomings {A Novel}

It’s easy to get distracted on the journey to self-discovery. We all come with our own baggage and it’s impossible to predict how other people’s damage will affect our story. Darryl Stephens’ first novel follows a group of young men whose lives intersect around the notion that sex is just another means to an end in the ultimate quest for love and companionship. They turn to dive bars, drug habits, pop music and pornography to cope with the loneliness they suffer when they find their emotional well-being dependent on the support and understanding of other men. SHORTCOMINGS is a provocative and compelling glimpse into those intensely personal moments when men come together and allow fear to finally give way to love.
